[CONCEPT] (old version)
The NEtROBOt project aims to establish a new concept of communication over the Internet, getting a feel of existence in the virtual world by interacting with an actual robot "AIBO".
Here we propose The unsimultaneous-communication and 3Dspace-sharing system with using web3d techniques and AIBO as interface.

Furthermore, This project is a proposal of new entertainment contents of "communication through images, sound, dance", which extended from original function of AIBO and other stand-alone robots.

3D models of the AIBO is displayed on a web browser, and the actual AIBO beside you reflects the communication of the AIBOs in the web3d world.

===============================

In the first phase of development of NEtROBOt, we made a plug-in software (Xtra) for Macromedia Director / Shockwave3D (which is very popular application in contents development) to control AIBO using its scripting language "Lingo".

With this plug-in, rich experienced Director contents creators can control AIBO directly, and they can extend their knowledge and techniques in the web3d contents development.

This system is based on a prior contents "RhythmEngine"((c)2002 Photon,Inc.), which was also developed by Director / Shockwave3D.

It started from April, 2002 (presented in SIGGRAPH2002 WEB Graphics),and now there are hundreds of thousands of the player.
Moreover, Photon,Inc. developed a charged contents "RhythmForest" by the Japanese provider "@Nifty" from April, 2003.

These contents are named "spatial-session-tool".
You can operate player characters (avatars) in 3d space on the Internet, and you can also make a music session with two or more other avatars by typing and hitting keys.
NEtROBOt uses "un-simultaneous session system", in which players does not need to operate in "real-time".

The client software downloads and plays a sound-play-log which played in the past. You can play sounds and add on the past log.
After playing the client software uploads your play log recorded in the local environment, to share the un-simultaneous session in the Internet virtual world.

This is the system which resembles BBS in essence.
By using a "motion and music" instead of "text", the difference between simultaneity and non-simultaneity becomes ambiguous.

[Un-simultaneous Dancing session Space]
  • For WindowsPC only.
  • You can fly-through in 3d space freely by keyboard.
  • The record group of the dance where players played in Input/Output system is un-simultaneous reproduced.
  • The record date sticks to the back of the robot.
  • The sound is generated from the dance record of the robot group automatically.
[Layers of Spatial Experience]
[Un-Simultaneous Session]
If you make your actual AIBO dance manually, virtual AIBO (as a web3d model) on your screen synchronizes and dances (AIBO2PC). A reverse flow (PC2AIBO), i.e., "AIBO operation on your screen, -> operation of actual AIBO" works similarly.

Like this way, you can interact the virtual WEB-space mutually through AIBO - an actual object with lots of sensors and actuators, and it's also an autonomous object in itself.

The motion of human's body (= robot's dancing) is recorded by using both AIBO of WEB3d and Physical space, and The record group of the dancing where players played in the past is un-simultaneous reproduced in Dancing session space.

It is a plan and image Movie of the network game that applies the system of NEtROBOt.
On your display, you can control your virtual AIBO by the cursor keys, and it walks freely in 3d space. Each origin of walking is geographically deduced from your IP address, and placed at corresponding position in the game space.
When your AIBO walks, its trajectory will remain in shape of a ribbon.

Along the way AIBO walked, the dog type robot AIBO's marking points remain here and there.
The captured photographs and voice messages posted from the AIBO are also remain in its territory (marking point) one after another.
Since density of them fall and disappear with time, players need to play the game periodically to keep them.

AIBO(s) which met on the network can enjoy a dance and a music session as a "dance battle."
The motion and sound will be recorded on a server as a log, and will be used in a session with the player of the future un-simultaneously.

You can evaluate others' dance performance, and the ranking of a dance is displayed on the client interface.
"Domination power" of a marking point improves gradually with evaluated by other players.
At last, your AIBO will grow up and have a power of remote controlling other virtual and actual AIBO(s) beyond the screen.

NOTICE: Since the NEtROBOt system and its game are under development and tuning right now, so specification may be changed.
This project started based on AIBO, because which is the best robot/interface available in the present market.
But, This is also a concept which can extend to the general robots and devices that have various sensors and actuators.

>From now on, we want to extend our concept toward an infinite possibility of the human interface between "actual-space and the WEB-space", and make both worlds more close to each other.

Moreover, this project offers to extend the power of web3D in familiar way with its contents creators. There is a market where the tools and the creators have already existed enough, so the future is beside you.
